Barcelona have reportedly made a mistake in Nico Gonzalez ‘s contract with Porto, which allowed the player to leave the Portuguese club for Manchester City on Monday.

Gonzalez’s first move from the Catalan giants saw him receive a 40 per cent share of any future transfer fee from the Spaniard. Barcelona
also triggered a buy-back clause in Gonzalez’s contract in July 2023, locking in a £25m move,

The midfielder’s move to Manchester City represents a mistake on the part of the club, as the Catalan club could have used the opportunity to buy the player back before selling him to City for a profit of £50.2m.
Barca failed to take the opportunity to re-sign the Spaniard, with Porto paying £2.5m to trigger a clause that reduced Barcelona’s profit on the sale to 20 per cent.
“The club has exercised its pre-emptive right to buy 20 per cent of any profit from the transfer for a fee of €3m,” Porto explained in a statement on their website.
It is understood the Catalonian side received £11m from the player’s move to Manchester City, rather than the £25m they could have received had they bought the player back.
Gonzalez becomes City’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, following Abdoukodir Kusanov, Vitor Hess and Omar Marmouch. The Spaniard has signed a
four-and-a-half-year deal with City and will wear the number 14 shirt.
