Are there any credible sources which can provide accurate numbers on patient pay collection? There are so many variables which affect collection outcomes that it is misleading to throw numbers out there. Without the right empirical data, it is impossible to accurately estimate what a hospital’s self pay recoveries could be. Collection studies have proven the traditional established norm of working patient pay accounts does not provide the best returns. There are so many variables which affect the outcome of self pay recoveries. Expecting better results with the same traditional processes is analogous to what Albert Einstein said, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. All self pay accounts need to be assessed on the front end with a good scoring tool. Without the right validated empirical data, it’s like fishing in a hurricane…. there is a lot of action but you’ll be hard pressed to catch anything. One must use a verifiable algorithm with accurate score cuts based on a real collection regression analysis.
